Smart-on-Smart is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing policy-driven solutions, research, and education at the intersection of energy efficiency, demand flexibility, and "smart" technologies with the goal of advancing a resilient, efficient, and affordable energy future. Our team is dedicated to identifying and enabling a wide range of use cases that improve energy affordability, resilience, and outcomes through smart technologies that utilize energy data, grid edge computing, automated home control and artificial intelligence.

Across the country, our electric grid is facing unprecedented growth from data centers and new industrial and manufacturing load. Utilities are working to generate more power to meet the demand, but can’t build new power generation and batteries fast enough to meet the rapid needs of the AI industry. Flexible demand and energy efficiency – through virtual power plants (VPPs), demand response, and high-efficiency upgrades – offer the fastest and most affordable opportunities to meet this growing demand. Smart on Smart Energy brings together the contactors, small businesses, technology providers, and policymakers to help make that happen.

Smart-on-Smart engages in initiatives to educate policymakers, regulators, program implementers, and contractors about how smart energy technologies and data services can enable enhanced energy performance and demand flexibility. Through our initiatives, we publish resources and host workshops and training to ensure that smart building technologies work in tandem with traditional energy efficiency measures.
